Linda Mary Montano has performed endurances and methodologies which attempt to not only solve everyday life traumas and issues but also magically erase the boundaries between time and space by extending actions to extremes so that everydayness disappears and consciousness is the only "element" left. She accepted Tehching Hsieh's invitation to be tied to him by a rope for a year for his One Year Performance, never touching, and subsequently performed her endurance: 14 Years of Living Art, an exploration of the Hindu Chakra theological system which suggests paying attention to both inside and outside so that one's mind, heart and glands can change for the better. Her video MITCHELL'S DEATH, is a classic and has been shown internationally and her five books: ART IN EVERYDAY LIFE; YOU TOO ARE A PERFORMANCE ARTIST; MILDRED'S DEATH; LETTERS FROM LINDA M MONTANO; & PERFORMANCE ARTISTS TALKING IN THE 80'S, are profound explorations of Montano's vision and spiritual-feminist take on life, healing and art. Montano has not only performed but has also taught performance art, sculpture and the history of performance throughout the world; and you can view more at: www.lindamontano.com.
