MONTANO: MONEY IS GREEN TOO MANIFESTO

        MONEY IS GREEN TOO MANIFESTO:

        MONEY IS GREEN TOO MANIFESTO

        1. ALMOST ALL MONEY IS PAPER. THINK TWICE BEFORE CREATING A WAY TO SPEND MORE&MORE MONEY BECAUSE THEN YOU COMPROMISE A TREE.

        2. SOME MONEY IS IN THE FORM OF PLASTIC CARDS. THINK TWICE BEFORE CREATING A PERSONAL NEED TO HAVE MORE TOXIC PLASTIC  IN YOUR LIFE.

        3. CREDIT CARDS ARE TO BE SEEN AS EQUIVALENCIES. THAT IS, IF WHAT IS VISUALIZED INSIDE THE CARD AS A REAL ASSET IS TRULY THERE, THEN USE THE CARD. IF WHAT IS VISUALIZED INSIDE THE CARD IS A PROBABILITY, THEN DON'T USE THE CARD.

        4. MONETARILY DO UNTO OTHERS AS WAS DONE BY OUR GRANDFATHERS. THAT IS, OUR FATHERS AND GRANDFATHERS SPENT ONLY WHAT THEY HAD. FOLLOW THEIR EXAMPLE.  IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT, DON'T SPEND IT.

        5. DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WANT DONE UNTO YOU. BEFORE YOU MAX OUT A CARD, THINK OF THE TRIED AND TRUE AMERICAN WORKING THREE JOBS TO PAY OFF YOUR MONETARY EXCESSES. SPEND THREE MINUTES A DAY BEING SOMEBODY ELSE. THAT IS, BE THIS PERSON WITH 3 JOBS IN YOUR IMAGINATION AND THEN DECIDE WHAT TO DO.

        6. THE GOVERNMENT IS HYPNOTIZING US TO BE FINANCIALLY CARELESS, EXCESSIVE AND IRRESPONSIBLE. IT IS A PLOY AND WAY FOR THEM TO THEN DO A POLITICAL INTERVENTION AND PUNISHMENT THAT HAS CONSEQUENCES THAT ARE TO BE FEARED.

        7. "I WILL MAX OUT MY CARD BECAUSE I'M TERMINALLY ILL"  IS A MONEY SIN AKIN TO ANYTHING YOU MIGHT CONSIDER A SIN IN YOUR INDIVIDUAL CONSCIENCE. WHY? BECAUSE SOMEBODY'S HARD WORKING BROTHER WILL HAVE TO EVENTUALLY PAY FOR YOUR DEBTS.

        7. BANKRUPTCY IS THE INQUISITION OF THE MIDDLE CLASS: THE "WORKER"  TAKES UP THE SLACK OF THE "WANTER".

        8. DO ONLY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD.

        9. WANT ONLY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD. IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH MONEY AND HAVE BECOME AN ADDICTED WANTER, THEN ASK, WHY WANT?

        10. TRANSLATED, THAT SAYS: ASK, WHY DO I WANT WHAT I HAVE BEEN HYPNOTIZED TO WANT?

        11. STOP IMAGINING YOU HAVE MONEY WHEN YOU DON'T. IF YOU DON'T HAVE MONEY, GET A JOB AND LIVE IN A WAY THAT SUPPORTS YOU, NOT A WAY THAT SUPPORTS A HABIT THAT IS AN ELITIST AFFRONT TO YOUR SOUL.

        12. MONEY IS ONE OF LIFE'S TABOOS LIKE SEX, DEATH. MONEY IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING DE-TABOOED, BUT IS NOW AT THE LAUGHINGSTOCK/FOOL STAGE OF DE-CONSTRUCTION.  BY TAKING MONEY SERIOUSLY, IT WILL BE RE-INSTATED TO ITS PREVIOUS POSITION OF RESPECT/ KIND-CARE AND WILL HAVE SURVIVED THE TEST OF TABOO.

        13. ASK: ARE LOVE AND MONEY OXYMORONONIC OR CONGRUENT? WHAT ABOUT COMMODIFIED/SATISFIED? SUSTAINABLE/WASTEFUL? BARTER/BUY? GENEROUS/HOARDING?

        14. THERE ARE 867,000 WAYS OF INTERPRETING POVERTY/LIVING WITHIN YOUR MEANS. RESEARCH THE TOPIC.

        15. THANK YOUR HIGHER POWER FOR THE INVISIBLE RICHES IN LIFE, NOT THE ONES THAT CAN BE BOUGHT.

        DEATHATHON/LIFEATHON: A 2 DAY ENDURANCE/LIFE AND DEATH

        DEATHATHON/ LIFEATHON: A 2 DAY ENDURANCE

DEATH-ATHON/LIFE-ATHON: A 2 DAY ENDURANCE: LINDA MARY MONTANO

DAY 1: DEATH-ATHON. Death is out of the closet. It's really on TV, been googled and you tubed. Nothing is hidden anymore.
For years I have made a study of death in my art and this 4 hour marathon will be a sharing of my videos and performances which address old age, sickness and death.

        A. DEATH IN THE ART/LIFE OF LINDA MARY MONTANO. This video is a re-seeing of a slide lecture that I presented in 1997 at the University Of Texas Austin. It includes death customs and the death rituals of different cultures.  I have re-made it as a video, 2014, and open the marathon with an overview of death in my  art/life and the lives of others. 40 minutes.

B.DYSTONIA, 2011. I developed a neurological chronic disease, cervical dystonia, and receive botox injections in my neck every 3 months to control spasms. This is my first physical illness and I include this video as a part of the trilogy of the Buddhist teachings on old age, sickness and death as preludes to the impetus to study of the Dharma. DYSTONIA is a metaphor for what happens when the body becomes fragile and the immune system begins to weaken.20 minutes.

        C. NURSE NURSE!! 2013. This video is a spoof and an ironic look at dementia and it's cure which is compassion, mindfulness and surrender. I play act being totally bananas and out of control, angry and aggressive. And then I counteract the same scenario, for example, being given meds, with a kind and gentle response to the nurse giving me pills. It is not funny, it is tragic. But it is a necessary rehearsal for a fait accompli waiting for many of us boomers. A song of thanks to caregivers ends the tape.30 minutes.

        D. BENARES, 1997. I went to Benares to observe and film cremations  on the banks of the Ganges. I was also interested in seeing how elders were cared for and how they spent their time. It happened. I went there, saw everything and cured myself of my need for any more death voyeurism. The resulting video is a powerful meditation on the swiftness of life and the open and visible disposal of the mortal coil. 30 minutes.

        E. MITCHELL'S DEATH, 1981. In 1977 my ex-husband Mitchell Payne, photographer, was murdered. I was devastated and went immediately to my art to feel it. I wrote, made films and the video classic, MITCHELL'S DEATH is the resulting, raw document of the time from the minute I heard about his death to the time that I saw his body in the funeral home. 22 minutes.

        F. DAD ART, 2005. I took care of my father Henry Montano for 7 years and we started doing a video film together. Then he had a stroke and was in bed for 3 years. I didn't put the camera down but hid behind it for those three years so that I could be protected from  my sorrow as I watched him slowly die. This film is a song to him and his last  breath. a 2 hour video with performance by MONTANO and 5 volunteers.

During this 4 hour marathon, I will be available and share ART/LIFE COUNSELING    with those in attendance.  Pot luck food will be shared during the marathon and people can come and go, visit, do their internet business and use the time to have face presence with each other.
After MITCHELL'S DEATH, we will have a 15 minute intermission and prepare for THE DAD ART VIDEO-PERFORMANCE.(2hours)

Tech needs are available on request: lindamontano@hotmail.com
        ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
        DAY 2: LIFE-ATHON

I have been using the concept  of Endurance in my performances in order to obliterate time and my preoccupation with past and future projecting, so that I can stay in NOW. I do things for a long "time" so I can forget "time" and simply "be" and not do.

In this 7 hour Lifeathon, I will be sitting on a mechanical lift raised in the air 14 feet, and singing either RAKA MUKERJEES Ragas or LINDA RONSTADTS Songs , along with their CD's.

I have used a mechanical lift in many other performances over the years as a symbolical and ironical tool to indicate ascension, flight, release and more truthfully and probably  a subconscious arrogance and narcissistic need for height over everyone else!

LINDA TALKS WITH LINDA: REAL PERFORMANCE

LINDA MARY MONTANO: Hi Linda, thanks for your comments about my DAD ART proposal. Im glad that you agree that I should show the film/performance again. I made it after dad died and it became a way to remember him and heal . Now it is time for me to share it with others . Seven years ago I premiered it at Ohio State University at the invitation of Jennie Klein but couldn't bring it out since then because it is so deeply personal and complicated. But when I hear the good inner voices that advise me to do this or that with my work, I obey, so here it is again and it is ready to be seen and performed!

LINDA WEINTRAUB: I'm so pleased you are promoting DAD ART, since it is such a timely and loving and candid work of art and is so true to your vision.  Remember, I visited you and your  father while you took care of him and was moved by that experience.

LMM:  The trailer for it is on You Tube and is titled: DAD ART in case you know of anyone wanting to have me come and share the video and performance.
But there is something else  I need to tell you, I have some news! I have "nominated" Carolee Schneeman  as my favorite performance artist!

        LW: Why is that?

LMM: Her current ability to be visible, her vision of the body as the vessel of art making, her once pulling the scroll from her vagina, and now pulling the scroll from her fleshed fragility is totally blowing my mind! I'm not saying that she is  performing  but listen as she reports about her 2014 practice: "As for myself, I am not working on issues of age or aging as such, I'm simply proceeding with the demands of production which currently are focused on kinetic sculpture and video projections. None of my current work is concerned explicitly with the body, at all. For the past 20 years, I have been insisting on my history as a painter and on installations and kinetic materials, rather than the embodied works of the 1960s and 1970s." C.S.

She is appearing in the art world/scene having just had major surgery and  I'm actually "mentoring" with her, that is, as you know I have a neurological Parkinsonian-like condition called Dystonia and I shake and twist and my head turns and I spasm in pain and it is totally embarrassing until I do my 3087 spiritual and art practices of EXPOSING MY BODY-FLESH AS ART-LIFE by calling every moment of every day ART as Carolee is doing.
She is now  my TEACHER...teaching me not to hide my visibly compromised (health) LIFE because everything is ART anyway. That's what I've always said but often I'm embarrassed by my "condition" and get caught in non-ART/LIFE. I need to practice what I preach and Carolee is showing me how to do it so gracefully and matter of factly,  not as her performance artist persona but as a creative"lifeist" a term I use to differentiate intentionality.
It is funny because she and I have joked over the years that if she has a job and then leaves, I get the job...for example, UT AUSTIN and BARD..... She taught both places then left and I then taught in her spot. So now as she "performs" the aging body by accompanying her work at openings, the body that most people hide, the body that the culture stiches up, the body that the "patient" becomes agoraphobic over,  I step up to her plate and learn how to appear publically with my body and it's performative betrayals of my once youthful presentation of my fabulous self. What she is doing is  REAL PERFORMANCE, the real thing, the real risk. It is exciting, shocking and is raising consciousness.
Honestly Linda, I am applauding Carolee, just as I applaud Pope John Paul who appeared on the balcony of St Peters in his declined body. I am energized by the theological truths they both have discovered.
So I send a message to Carolee: Carolee, I applaud you. Keep teaching and demonstrating for us how to live all of our art-life, right up to the last bow....beyond the title artist, beyond the title lifeist... simply accepting that we are all vulnerable, impermanent HUMAN BE-INGS.

LW: I applaud both you and Carolee! Is there a way you can write about this? It is real important!

        LMM: Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, maybe.

        THE CAROLERS

        THE CAROLERS

They were young, enthusiastic, maybe in their 20's and their enthusiasm indicated that they were doing this for the first time.... after a few drinks. Too far away physically and too dark to recognize any of them, I danced along with sincere appreciation on the front step like an awkward BOBBLE HEAD DOLL, totally non-performatively, giving them all the glory as they sang Jingle Bells all the way through. I'm now ready.

When I was still trying to "get" tenure, I kept hearing my good voice say, "Go home and be with your father." Over and over. Tenure was denied ( of course, it is Karma we are speaking about here!!!!!) and I left Texas for upstate NY where I began collaborating via time spent and videos made, with my great dad, Henry Montano; mystic, musician and store owner.  So this dad who I really didn't know well because he was always working to feed, clothe and school us, became my re-friend, in his 80's, and after an unspeakable and tragic accident (mistake) by a negligent physical therapist, he became my patient for 3 years, 24-7.

For 4 years, before the tragedy,  we documented our friendship at meals,  at nightly/marathon TV viewings of Wheel of Fortune, and at parties with him and his pretty woman-friend. I was celebrating us.

After his hemorrhagic stroke, the camera was kept running. Why?  I needed a buffer-tripod to hide behind because the pain of suffering was too overwhelming.

One day, one of the 408947 caregivers brought into work colored paints. My dad who was already a mystic and musician, became a visual artist. In Zen-like slow motion he filled  pages with unspeakable beauty.
